Bring Your Toilet Into the 21st Century!

smarterflush kitsMy regular readers are thinking this has to be one of my trick titles and can’t wait to find out what it has to do with social media.

Surprise! It doesn’t have anything to do with social media. This post is actually about leaky toilet valves.

Wait, what?

This post is, well, different from what you are used to reading here. This really is a product review. I am no stranger to product reviews, compensated or otherwise. Many bloggers write sponsored posts, but when I find a product that knocks my socks off, I don’t care if I am compensated or not. I have written about ResumeBear.com, Chick-Fil-A, The Princess Bride video game, Glidden Paint (no kidding), Sears layaway, and my personal favorite, Topsy Turvy Tomato Planters.

SmarterFlush Kits are such a product.

You don’t know it yet, but you need a SmarterFlush Kit.  In fact, everyone needs SmarterFlush Kits. If you hate having to reach down into the back of the toilet tank to see if the chain broke or if it really is that disgusting leaky flapper valve that needs to be changed –  AGAIN – SmarterFlush Kits are just what you are looking for.

I was not compensated in any way for this review. In fact, I didn’t even write it.

Earlier this month, I introduced you to Terry Andrews, my partner in DotCom Market Solutions. Well, today she is my very first guest blogger!  Terry had an opportunity to try out this product on two different toilets,  and here is what she said:

If you’d suggested that someday I’d be raving about a toilet repair kit, I’d have said you were off your rocker. Toilets just aren’t something I think about – unless, of course, they don’t work, or need to be cleaned, or aren’t around when you need them. Since I work from home, none of that is much of an issue. Yet, here I am writing about some incredible dual-flush kits that have been installed on my toilets. I’m just amazed what a difference they’ve made!

smarterflush kitsEvery year or so my husband needs to dink around with the flappers and such to keep both of our toilets functioning properly. Sometimes I think about replacing them but they look brand new and are of a style I like, and new toilets aren’t cheap. Plus, switching out a toilet is a pretty gruesome job that no one wants to do if they don’t have to, and that plumbers charge a pretty penny for. So, since they work and look good I’ve pretty much ignored the intermittent gurgles from our toilets.

However, after watching my husband struggle yet again with malfunctioning flappers, I looked around for a solution. Before long I landed on SmarterFlushKits.com.

It didn’t occur to me until I read the description of “ghost flushing” on the SmarterFlushKits website that at least one of my toilets was leaking – and probably leaking a lot. It was very sobering to realize that thousands of gallons of clean water are wasted every year because of my leaky toilets. That combined with the ongoing maintenance hassles and low price prompted me to take the plunge and try the SmarterFlush kits.

We started off with a Quick Connect Kit and discovered it was as easy to install as the website claims. It took about 15 minutes. Even better, it works like a charm! In fact, I think there’s more flushing power now than there was before, while using a measly 1-2 gallons of water per flush.

The second toilet needed the Complete Kit, which took my husband a little longer to install. That kit replaces the entire contents of the toilet tank – no smarterflush kitsmore ballcock, flapper, chains, corroded parts, etc.

Now, both my toilets work like new, and use far less water than when they were new. The kits turned my toiilets into dual-flush toilets – push down on the handle for liquids and up for solids. That took a little getting used to, but not much and it was totally worth it. No more ghost flushing or gurgles, no more leaks, no more maintenance. If I had water bills (which I don’t because we have a well), I know I’d see instant savings, paying for the kits in a couple of months.

Best of all, the SmarterFlush Kits are suprisingly inexpensive and well worth the cost. The parts are sturdy and won’t corrode, and will last a long time without maintenance.

The SmarterFlush Kits totally modernized my toilets. Now, they’re better than new!

Well, now hold on a minute.  Maybe this does have to do with social media. We are curious about whether it is really true that 90% of people trust peer recommendations of products, and whether sales of this product could result from blogging about it and then spreading the word through social media channels.

Would you try one of these on our word? If you have a leaky flapper valve you could be wasting as much as 50 gallons of water a day!  For less than the price of a fast food dinner for a family of four, you might never have to reach into the back of your toilet tank again!

How do you figure out which kit to order? I don’t know enough about toilets to figure it out. Our toilet needs something. You have to hold the handle down for about 15 seconds until it’s done flushing.

    1. SusanCritelli

Well, I think if the inside of your toilet tank is rusted out and disgusting, you might want to swap out ALL the parts and get a complete kit. If the inside of the tank is pretty clean but you just have to change the valve constantly, then the quick connect is probably OK. You can also call the number on the website. They have a friendly customer service department.

Maybe this will help: “How do you know which to choose? Lift up the lid to the toilet tank and take a look. If the insides are corroded and rusty then you’ll want to give your toilet all new functioning parts by installing the Complete Kit. You’ll also want the Complete Kit if the fill valve is old or has a ballcock float, if the overflow tube is too short, or if there’s a combination fill valve/flush valve. Choose the 3″ Complete Kit if your toilet has a 3″ discharge hole. We can help you determine which kit you need – just call us at 248-434-8609.”
